single herb support for emotional balance

Sale price$28.00

When the light gets thin, something in you can thin with it, and this organic St. John's Wort tincture was made for exactly that season. The flowering tops of Hypericum perforatum are gathered at the height of midsummer, when the plant holds the most sun, and pressed slowly into the bottle. A little of the bright season, kept for the dim one.

St. Johns Wort

PRODUCT DETAILS

The Plants

In late June, when the days are at their longest, St. John's Wort comes into flower along field edges and open hillsides, five-petaled and yellow as the season itself. Crush a bud between your fingers and it stains them red: the plant's famous oil, carried in small dark glands along the petals and leaves. Herbalists across Europe gathered it at midsummer, around St. John's Day, and hung it over doorways as a keeper of light. That is the herb in this bottle, and it is the only one.

A single herb is its own kind of formula. The old Western tradition called it the simpler's method: working with one plant at a time, long enough and consistently enough to learn what it does in your particular body. Where a blend offers a constellation, a simple offers depth. St. John's Wort has earned that kind of attention for centuries, reached for in the seasons when the light is low and the inner weather is heavy, and trusted to work the way plants work: gradually, cumulatively, in partnership with the body rather than over it.

This tincture keeps the plant whole. Aerial parts, flowering tops, the red oil and all, extracted at 1:5 so the full character of the herb arrives intact. If you want St. John's Wort held inside a wider constellation, our Sunny Spirit Tincture gathers it among seven other plants. This bottle is for the woman who wants the plant itself.

St. John's Wort

St. John's Wort grows where the sun is most generous: roadside edges, dry hillsides, the open meadows of early summer, flowering right at the solstice as though it kept the calendar itself. Europeans gathered it on St. John's Day in late June and noticed what every herbalist since has noticed, that the yellow flowers crushed between the fingers release a deep red oil, summer's brightness turned into something you can hold. It is the plant I think of as bottled light. In my practice it belongs to the dim months and the inward ones, taken daily and patiently, the way you would tend a fire rather than strike a match. It asks for consistency, and it gives back steadiness.

Rooted in Lineage. Made with Reverence.

Every formula in this apothecary is made in small batches in Los Angeles, using herbs that are organically grown or seasonally wildcrafted whenever possible. We work with plants at the peak of their potency — harvested in the right season, prepared slowly, and handled with the same reverence we hope you bring to using them.

This is medicine in the oldest sense of the word: plant wisdom, carefully tended, passed forward with care.

Jasmine's Note

My grandmother didn't call it herbalism. She just knew things — which plants to reach for, which roots to dry, what the earth offered when the body asked. She learned it from her father, who kept a garden in Biloxi and understood plants the way some people understand people. That knowledge passed to her, and quietly, to me.

I didn't fully understand what I'd inherited until my own body started asking questions that medicine couldn't answer. Hormonal chaos, long seasons of depression, the particular exhaustion of feeling disconnected from yourself. I remembered the whisperings. I turned back toward the plants. Everything in this apothecary came from that turning — things I made for myself first, and then for the women in my life who needed the same. I offer them to you the way my grandmother offered what she knew: as a hand extended, as something real.
