Single Herb Tincture

Chaste Tree (Vitex) Tincture

single-herb support for cyclical balance

Sale price$28.00

There is a steadiness the body finds slowly and never on command, and vitex has long been the plant women turned to when they wanted to come back into their own rhythm. The berry of the chaste tree, dried and tinctured the way it has been around the Mediterranean for centuries, this is a single plant offered plainly. Take it daily, give it months, and let it become a quiet practice rather than a quick answer.

PRODUCT DETAILS

The Plants

The chaste tree grows low and wide around the Mediterranean, putting out spires of pale violet flowers and then the small dark berries that have carried its reputation for more than two thousand years. Greek physicians wrote about it. Later, monks dried the peppery fruit and ground it like pepper, which is how it came to be called monk's pepper. The plant has stayed close to women's lives across that entire stretch of time, valued for its relationship to the body's own rhythm.

Offered on its own, vitex is not a plant in a hurry. It is slow and patient by nature, the kind of herb that asks for months rather than days and rewards consistency rather than urgency. That is exactly why it stands alone here. Some plants are best understood in the company of others; vitex is best understood on its own terms, given room and time to do what it does in its own unhurried way.

I keep vitex as a single herb so you can come to know it directly, one plant and one rhythm, rather than meeting it folded inside a formula. Some women take it alongside our Hormone Harmony tincture and let the two work together; others want one plant at a time, nothing else competing for their attention. Both are right. This is the chaste tree offered the way it has been offered for centuries.

Chaste Tree Berry

The chaste tree is a Mediterranean shrub, happiest in dry sun, with long spires of soft violet flowers that give way to the small peppery berries we use. Those berries are the part with the long memory. Dried, they were ground like pepper in monastery kitchens, which is where the old name monk's pepper comes from. I have always loved that vitex refuses to be rushed. It is a slow, steady plant, one you take for months and come to know by its patience rather than any quick signal, and in my practice it belongs to the women who are ready to move with their own rhythm over time rather than against it.

Rooted in Lineage. Made with Reverence.

Every formula in this apothecary is made in small batches in Los Angeles, using herbs that are organically grown or seasonally wildcrafted whenever possible. We work with plants at the peak of their potency — harvested in the right season, prepared slowly, and handled with the same reverence we hope you bring to using them.

This is medicine in the oldest sense of the word: plant wisdom, carefully tended, passed forward with care.

Jasmine's Note

My grandmother didn't call it herbalism. She just knew things — which plants to reach for, which roots to dry, what the earth offered when the body asked. She learned it from her father, who kept a garden in Biloxi and understood plants the way some people understand people. That knowledge passed to her, and quietly, to me.

I didn't fully understand what I'd inherited until my own body started asking questions that medicine couldn't answer. Hormonal chaos, long seasons of depression, the particular exhaustion of feeling disconnected from yourself. I remembered the whisperings. I turned back toward the plants. Everything in this apothecary came from that turning — things I made for myself first, and then for the women in my life who needed the same. I offer them to you the way my grandmother offered what she knew: as a hand extended, as something real.
